ビールVS梅ちこ Beer VS plum"chico"

ここのところ夏バテでブログアップの元気がない・・・でも今日は頑張るぞ!
私は基本的にビールは飲まない。日本で売ってるのがしゅわしゅわの「ラガー」系だから。炭酸に弱くておなかパンパンになっちゃうのもイヤだし、大学時代イギリスでお酒を覚えた私にとってビールといえばラガーじゃなくて、いわゆるビールとかスタウトとかギネスとか。写真に写ってる緑色瓶のようなドイツビールも大好き!あのほんのり甘くてまったりスムーズな味がいいの♪♪というわけでおうちで晩酌するとき我が家ではワインをあける時や私好みのビールがあるとき以外夫婦別のものを飲みます。最近の2人のパターンはダンナ君ビール、そして私は梅ちこ・・・梅ちことは先月アップした梅黒酢ジュースを焼酎で割ったもの。これが酸っぱくて美味しいのよ〜☆毎回自画自賛しながら飲んでるかも(笑)来年も作るぞー。

I've been defeated by the heat recently, depriving myself of the energy to upload anything... but this can't go on forever, so here I go!
I don't drink beer, or lager to be exact. My stomach can't seem to take sparkling drinks in general, so lager make me feel bloated and suffocated. Plus, I personally believe that beer has to be rich and smooth like those I used to drink when I was in England☆ This means, except for when we open a bottle of wine together, we usually drink completely different things when we have an evening drink at home. Our recent favorite is... lager for Taishi and plum"chico" for me. Plum"chico" is a homemade cocktail; a blend of homemade plum and vinegar juice with rice spirit called shochu (chico comes from the brand name "Iichiko"). Plum"chico" is so refreshing and perfect for a boiling summer night. I'm definitely going to make this plum juice next year, too!

Mero Rosso di Toscana(red) メロ ロッソディトスカーナ(赤)

誕生日のお祝いに飲んだイタリアの赤ワイン。イカ墨のリゾットに合うものってことでお勧めされたものだけに相性ばっちり、美味しく飲んじゃいました♪トスカーナといえばキアンティが有名だけど、こちらはサンジョベーゼ100%ではなくキアンティクラシコと名乗るための規定から外れるために「トスカーナの赤ワイン」なんて副題が着いてるのかな?気さくな店長さんの話だと、キアンティの規定は厳しすぎ、今の若いワインメーカーなんかは高いブレンド技術でブランドが付かなくても美味しいワインを作っているのにもったいないと言っておりました。
たしかにこの「メロ」も美味しい!香りは軽めかなって思うけど、飲んでみると最初にベリーのような甘みが感じられて、後味にはすっきりとした渋みが。鶏肉とも相性良でした☆そうそう、私このワインで適温の大切さを身にしみて感じちゃった。最初適温で飲んでたのがだんだんあったまってしまってそしたら渋みばっかり引き立って全然美味しくない。でもその後冷やして(冷やしすぎて・・・)飲んだら今度は水みたいに味気がない。適温のときに感じた味のステップたちはどこへ行ったの??
いつもは自分の舌と好みだけで飲んで「詳しいことはしらな〜い」だけど、知識って役に立つしなにより楽しいんだね!

This is the Italian wine we enjoyed for Taishi's birthday celebration. It went greatly with the risotto as was adviced it would from the shop owner (she was so bubbly and friendly and a pleasure to speak to!). Chianti is famous in Toscana, but this wine does not use 100% San Jovese grapes and does not fill the requirements to be named Chianti Classico. Whether this is why this wine has an odd subtitle "Toscana Red Wine" I don't know, but the shop manager did say that the production code for Chianti Classico is too strict and that's a pity becasue there are a lot of especially young wine makers who make good wines with new and high blending skills, and these wines are good even without the brand-value of "Chianti Classico".
And just as she said, the wine was wonderful - it smells light but once you put it in your mouth the flavour of berries fills your mouth first followed by a dry and refreshing after taste. It was a great match with the roasted chicken, too (^^)Oh, and this wine told me the importance of temperature when drinknig wine. I was first drinking the Mero in the adviced temperature and it was lovely, but as the wine got a little warmer in the summer air the taste changed to a heaviness that lingers too much on your tongue and gets in the way of anything you have with it. So I cooled it next time which was just as bad: the wine this time had lost all it's fragrance and flavour. Where did all the steps of flavour I enjoyed at the right temperature all go??
I usually choose and drink wine based on my personal taste and leave the jargon behind, but this experience has proven that knowledge really helps and is actually fun, too!

梅酒、梅黒酢  plum liquor, plum juice

今年初めて梅酒と梅ジュースを作ってみることに!
梅酒はオーソドックスなホワイトリカーで、梅ジュースは黒酢で作ってみた。
手前の瓶が茶色いでしょ?
飲み頃は梅ジュースは来月末、梅酒は9月末。めっちゃ楽しみだぁ(*^ー^*)
出来上がったらまたアップするよん♪

This is homemade plum liquor and juice; plum liquor made in the traditional way with white liquor, and juice with black vinegar (matured rice / wheat vinegar). That's why the bottle at the front looks brown.
The plum liquor will be ready at the end of July, and the juice end of September - can't wait!!

葡萄果汁 Grape nectar

その名もババンと「葡萄果汁」!ただのジュースではありません。
ジュースらしい甘みだけでなく、タンニンといいましょうか、皮の渋みもあって本当に葡萄を液状にして食べてる感じ。実際瓶の裏が紫色に染まってるの、分かるかなぁ?
山梨のワイナリーでしか売っていないというこちら、濃くて甘くて本当に贅沢な味でした☆

This is not just any grape juice but grape nectar, and it's really a world apart from the common grape juice...
It's obviously sweet but it also has the distinct taste of tannic acid, just like with wine; it's as if you're easting a liquidised cluster of grapes. I wonder if you can see that the bottle's stained purple?
Only found in certain wineries in Yamanashi, this nectars richness and sweetness makes it a most luxurious juice available☆

Chateau Tour Leognan (red) シャトー トゥール・レオニャン(赤)

こちらボルドー地方グラーヴ地区にあるシャトー・カルボーニュという歴史ある高価なシャトーのセカンドワイン。もともとここは白が有名らしいんだけど、この赤もすごく美味しかった!熱い日だったので少し冷やした状態で飲み始めたんだけど低温では程よい土臭さとコク、室温ではなめらかなフルボディー感が楽しめて本当によかった☆マイルドで後味もとげのない感じだけど、ちゃんと渋さもあって手作りピザ(焦げ付いてしまったので写真は撮ってないの・・・)にぴったりな1本でした☆☆

This is a second label wine from a historical and highly valuesd Chateau Carbonnieux, located in Bordeaux Graves. I read somewhere that this area is originally famous for its elegant white wine but this red was no less elegant! As it was a hot day we had it slightly chilled so we were able to enjoy the aroma of soil and richness when chilled and a smooth fullbodied taste at room temperature. It's a mild wine with a round after taste but it's got sufficient bitterness so it's not too light: a perfect match with home made pizza(The crust burnt so I didn't take any photos) we had that night☆☆

銀座カクテルパイン Ginza Cocktail "Pineapple"

サントリーから出ている千疋屋カクテルシリーズ。マンゴー、メロン、桃、パイン、だったかな。最初のを買ってしまったから「甘すぎる」とか「ジュースみたい」とかぶーぶー言いながらも4種類全部飲んでたりする。そしたらやっときました、パイナップル。コレは美味しい♪甘さが一番しつこくなくてマイベストとなりました。まだ出るとしたら夏だから・・・すいか??

Ginza Senbikiya is an old-established fruits store and they've been collaborating with liquor company Suntory on this "Ginza Cocktail" series since last year. I'm not a particularly big fan of cocktails and when I tried the first one I found it too sweet and nonalcoholic. But I've tried all of four of them so far out of curiosity and of course love for fruits. The pic is the latest and current favourite "pineapple". It's sweet but not over the top and it tastes most refreshing out of the four. I wonder if they will release another cocktail this summer... what about watermelon?

Entre Deux Mers 2004

先日お友達と持ち寄りご飯会を開いた。持ち寄った美味しいおかずたちの写真はすっかり撮り忘れたんだけどひやひや飲んだワインだけとりあえず紹介します☆
フランス、ボルドーの白ワインEntre Deux Mers。Deux Mersとあるのはワインを作っている土地が2本の川の間(三角州?)にあるところからついているそう。
香りは洋梨っぽくて、味はまったりすぎず甘すぎず酸味も程よい感じ。全体的に優しくてめだったキャラクターはないんだけどちゃんと味わいがあるのでいわゆる万能選手なワインってイメージでした。ふだん白をあんまり飲まない私もおいしくいただけました♪その日は肉メニューも豚バラ&タン塩のフリルレタス巻きだったからたいした違和感もなく楽しめたし、ダンナ君のグッチョイに感謝したのでした♪♪

We invited our friends for a pot luck party last weekend. Unfortunately we were too busy eating, drinking, and talking to take any photos of the lovely foodひやひやbut here is a wine we had.
This is Entre Deux Mers from Bordeaux, France. Apparently the name "Deux Mers" comes from the fact that the vineyard is located between two rivers (a delta?). The taste was enjoyable even for one like me who mainly drinks red. The aroma is pear-like and the taste round with sufficient freshness; there is no distinct tone or character but isn't watery at all, so I would say this is a versatile wine that matches almost anything. good choice Taishi!

Gewurtztraminer

新婚旅行先の南アフリカで買った白ワイン。
ジャスミンとバラを混ぜたような美しい香りと、口の中でしゅわっと広がるさわやかさがたまらない。変に甘くもなく、かといってフレッシュすぎることもなく、外でひなたぼっことかしながら飲みたいワインです。近くにそんなことができる場所があればねぇ。ベランダで飲むか!

This is the white wine we bought in South Africa, our honeymoon destination. It has a beautiful aroma of jasmine and rose and the slightly sparkly taste spreads in your mouth refreshingly. It's far from sweet but not young - perfect for driniking outdoors! If only we had a park where we could picnic with this wine... Oh well, we can always use our tiny balcony!

Mon Cher Vin

難しいことはさておき私はワイン大好き。でも日本のワインて軽すぎか甘すぎであんまり好みじゃなかった。そんな私の意見を少し変えてくれたのが、サドヤ醸造場のワイン。サドヤさんは山梨県甲府駅の近くにある有名なワイナリー。数年前にここでワインを買ったきり飲んでなかったんだけど、こないだ近所でこのテーブルワインを見つけて思わず購入。(小さいお酒コーナーしかないスーパーなのにシャトーマルゴーもあるし、今まで気が付かなくて損したわぁ。近所に高級住宅地があるから??)その晩のご飯のお供となりましたワイングラスワインを買う前に献立決まってたから合うか不安だったけど純和風の夕飯にも合うこと☆日本のワイナリーだからかな。渋み、酸味、コクはたしかに軽めなんだけどバランスがよくて味もしっかりあるから満足。約1,000円という価格にも大満足!今度は白も試してみよう。

I love wine; forget about the jargon, I simply love wine. But unfortunately not Japanese wine becasue they are often too light, sweet or even watery... until I met Sadoya Winery. The first time I had Sadoya wine was when I actually went to the winery to buy some wine for my family. I hadn't had the chance of another visit since then but I found their table wine at a supermarket I never dreamt of dealing with such wines (I later found out that they had expensive wines like Château Margaux, too). We rushed home with the wine and opened it for teaワイングラス I was worried about having it with my traditional Japanese menu, but there was no problem at all! Is it because the wine is made in Japan? I don't know, but the fact is that although it was a little light and mild I still enjoyed it very much because it was very well balanced and had sufficient flavour. Such good wine for 1,000 yen(£4.00 / $8.00 is cheap in Japan)! I'm definitely trying the white next time.

楽しいお酒 Simple rule for happy drinking

いつもは辛口派なんだけど、たまに飲みたくなるこういうちょい甘で
飲みやすい立山のような日本酒。
しかし!わたくし最近めっきりお酒に弱くなってしまったの・・・冷や汗
ほんの数年前まではいくら飲んでも翌朝ケロっとしてたのになぁ。
それが結婚してからというもの翌日残る酒の量がもうハンパない!
これからは「弱い自分」を自覚してお酒とオトナの付き合いを!
こう心に誓うのでした。

A little on the sweet side for my usual taste, but Tateyama is a good sake none the less... If only my alcohol tolerance was still as high as it used to be冷や汗Just a few years ago, I would feel perfectly normal in the morning no matter how much I drank the previous night. But since I got married it's like I'm a different person - the amount of alcohol still in my body the next day is just overwhelming...
So here I make a vow that I will face the truth that I can't drink like a fish anymore and will build up a sensible relation with Mr. Alcohol.
